What You’ll Need

  • Paper & Pen

  • 10 minutes in the morning

  • Timer (optional)

  • Noise cancelling headphones (optional)

Preparation - the night before

  1. Decide where you’ll take this time for gratitude and reflection. Arrange your pen, paper and anything else you’ll need.

  2. Set your reminder alarm for gratitude. This can be different from your wake-up alarm depending on when in your morning routine you want to fit this in. 

Activity Steps

  1. When ready and seated in your area, put your headphones on and set your 10 minute timer (if needed). 

  2. Close your eyes or lower your eyelids to a soft gaze. Take three deep and slow breaths (as is comfortable and safe for you) and then slowly open your eyes and return to your normal breathing. 

  3. Place your attention to the area around your heart-space and ask yourself:” What am I grateful for right now?”

  4. Start writing: “Today I am grateful for…” Don’t think too much, just write what immediately comes to you.

  5. When you are done or your timer indicates the 10 minutes is up, pack up your items and go have a wonderful day.

Tips

  • Try to choose something new each day. 

  • Elaborate and journal further on whatever you are grateful for. 

  • Write the word or a word/image that encompasses what you are grateful for on a chalk board, sticky note or anywhere that you’ll see multiple times throughout the day to remind yourself of it.
